It’s so easy to forget that men have feelings too! So many of us think of men as being emotionless, being tough and strong and never shedding a tear. But when a divorce happens, it affects men in so many deep ways and can really impact their self-esteem, confidence and quality of their lives.

Statically men who live alone, are more likely to die at a younger age than women who live alone.

Why is this?

Women can cope with living alone for longer, because they culturally have had to integrate with their community, whilst raising children and are familiar with forming social networks, men on the other hand tend to withdraw into isolation and loneliness when living alone.

If you are a man going through a separation or divorce things might be tough now, but you will get through this stage of your life and you will find that life does get better.

Men report a range of intense emotions and it’s natural to feel any of these or a combination of these emotions at various and unexpected times of any given day:

  • Frustration, resentment and betrayal
  • Loss of confidence and self-esteem
  • Loneliness and feelings of being lost and confused
  • Disappointment and anger
  • Vulnerability and powerless

“Divorce  was a real wake -up call for me… I guess I just took my wife for granted until one day my wife told me she wanted to leave the marriage, I felt such intense shock and betrayal at first… but gradually as  time passed, I saw a real opportunity to create a better life for myself… I got the support I needed”
