Why mediation is the best starting point!

Separation and divorce can be one of the most stressful and uncertain experiences that many people will ever face in their life time.  It is unfortunately a fact that not all relationships are meant to last. If you are experiencing separation or divorce, then keep reading and find out why mediation is the best starting point.

Mediation is quick

Compared to spending anywhere from 12 months to three years and more in the Family Law Court system to determine your matters, mediation is quick and available right now for people who are willing to make a genuine commitment to and engage with the process of mediation. There are mediators who have experience in parenting matters, property matters or both and in the event that it does not work out, then a certificate can be issued by an accredited mediator so that people can then deal with their parenting matters at Court.

Mediation is Cheap

Mediation is a much more affordable and financially viable option than going to Court. For a few hundred or even a couple of thousand dollars the issues that need to be resolved between you and your ex can be finalised. It is not unusual for matters that end up at Court costing into the thousands of dollars and sometimes even hundreds of thousands of dollars.

If you reach an agreement, then this can easily be drafted by your family lawyer and formalised.

Mediation makes you feel good

There is nothing better than the feeling of knowing that despite all the difficulties you and your ex may have had during the relationship, you managed to come through together at the end, and reach an agreement that you both had a say in and contributed towards. After all this is your life and your future, so it’s right that you should have a say when it ends.

Mediation gives you a voice

Often people believe that going to Court will give them a voice and they will get to say what they want. Unfortunately this is not always case, Court is governed by  strict rules of evidence and sometimes it may be very hard to have your voice heard.

In mediation- you speak, you listen. In this way everyone has a voice and is heard.
